Claercamp Guesthouse

B&B Claercamp is a residential farmhouse, located in the outskirts of Dokkum (5km) and on the Elfstedenroute. It is,however, not an isolated place: you can reach Dokkum within 5 minutes by car and Leeuwarden is only 20 minutes away. Enjoy peace, space, fresh air and nature here. During a hot summer, sit in the shade of our chestnut trees with a book, guaranteed not to suffer from heat stress. If you prefer action, you will also enjoy us, how about mudflat walking, cycling, canoeing, paddle boarding and hiking! For lovers of history: In an building on our yard is the museum about Claercamp Monastery, which stood in the pasture in front of our door from 1165 to 1580 and where about 700 monks lived and worked.
A day trip to the island of Ameland or Schiermonnikoog is almost a "must" when you are here!

ccommodation :  
There are 3 rooms:
All rooms have a comfortable queensize bed ( 160cm ), a table with chairs, a wardrobe and a 2 seats sofa. 
There are free coffee and tea supplies in the room , a flat screen TV, DVD and wifi ( free )
Every room has a microwave and fridge and you also have a private bathroom with shower, sink, toilet, towels  and haidryer. 

de Lekenbroeder: ( 32 m2 ) On the groundfloor. In the bathroom is a sauna witch you can use after reservation and outside is a real nice space to cool down and enjoy the view over the fields.

Abt: ( 30 m2 ) On the groundfloor. This is a cozy family room for two adults and two children. For children there is a loft with two single beds.

Schiere monnik: ( 30 m2 )On the first floor 

In the central entrance is a fully equipped kitchen with oven, you share this with other guests.

Breakfast  is not included, but there is a possibility to order breakfast if you want at an additional cost.

You are welcome between 16:00 - 19:00 hours and we kindly ask you to leave the room before 11.00h
Of course, other arrival times are possible, please contact us.
Smoking and pets are not allowed.
There is a free parking area and a safe place to storage your bicycle, motorcycle, oldtimer and so on. It is also possible to park a horse with our neighbors.
We have bikes for rent and it is also possible to rent electric bicycles. 
You can also rent a canoe from us. 

Possebilitys in the neighberhood:
Interested guests may visit the small museum dedicated to the Claercamp Monastery housed on our property. The museum opens during the weekends (1 PM to 5 PM).

Completely unwind or check out the activities in the neighbourhood. The beautiful surroundings are perfect for guests who like biking or hiking. We would of course be happy to give you some tips and details about routes. Why not make a ‘wadhyke’, a trip across the Wadden Sea’s tidal flats? Take a guided tour across the flats of the Wadden Sea, a unique World Heritage site and an amazing experience!

A day trip to the Wadden Island Ameland and/or Schiermonnikoog National Park is also highly recommended. A 45-minute boat ride will take you there and you will dock in a completely different landscape with forests, beaches, meadows, dunes, picturesque villages and, of course, the sea. In this region, you will also find Lauwersmeer National Park. This is a beautiful, forested nature reserve with hiking and biking tracks, a beach, fishing port and restaurants.

And let’s not forget Dokkum! Wander around freely, check out authentic little shops, great restaurants with nice terraces or the Dokkum museum, or take a canal ride with an antique boat. You can also SUP in the canals of Dokkum, a nice adventure.
And ofcourse Leeuwarden, another Frisian must-see that is well worth your while!

On 3 km you find the village Burdaard, it lies on the river Dokkumer Ee, where you can skate in the winter. In the village is a combined flour / wood saw mill , a restaurant "het Posthuis" and the museum “Ruurd Wiersma house” (a painter).

Take a walk along the dikes at Moddergat, Paesens or Wierum, the coast is beautiful there!
But also on the dikes at Ferwert and Marum it is nice to walk with a view of Ameland.
Walking on the Noorderleech, on the outer dike polders and salt marshes is also a special experience.

There are several nice brocant shops and stores with second hand stuff in our immediate surroundings. Ask us for more info and addresses.

In Damwoude is “the sukerei” (7 km), an open-air museum, which showes the visitor the (hard) life in northeastern Friesland at the end of the 19th century. In addition, the production of chicory coffee, a substitute for coffee, is explained by the root of the plant whose shoot we know today as the vegetable "chicory".

Museum “it fiskershûske”  : 3 cottages with the fishing history, right on the dike "on the Wadden Sea.

Hegebeintum is a small village which is built on a  almost 9m high so-called "terp". In the visitor center of the village, the backgrounds are explained: "Terpen" are mounds build by human hands, which provided protection against flooding in the centuries before there was a dike arround the country.

Park Vijversburg orangerie, voliere, teahouse, visual art works are just a few of the highlights that can be found there.

The property Stania State (10 km) is a historic park designed by landscape architect Roodbaard, with a cosy restaurant, and beautiful hiking trails and nice terrace.

Aqua Zoo animal park.(15km) with polar bears, crocodiles, otters, beavers, seals and other aquatic animals

For children (and adulds) there are in the vicinity indoor play facilities such as the game park Sanjes Safari with a "monkey cage", but also a "real" small zoo, a natural history museum, a traffic park outside and sandboxes for the little ones.(10km)There are also animals that you can pet and touch and a traffic garden outside.

In Burgum (23 km) there is an outdoor climbing park, Aventoer, but also inside there is much to do for young and old
