Margo de Wijk

My name is Margo. I grew up partly in England and now live in Woerden. As an artist I look at what happens around me in my own way. Structures, lines, small things that are often missed. I show that in my work, so that everyone can share in the beauty of nature.

With the Ziltepad I am taking three weeks to pause. To feel where I am right now. I notice that I am getting older and that my time is precious. That makes me choose more carefully. I want to do what gives me energy and make room for what truly matters. This route along the Wadden coast helps with that. The openness of the landscape, the quiet, the churches where you step inside briefly and linger.

I know the feeling of walking for days on end, sometimes without meeting anyone. How that changes your perspective. On the Ziltepad I am looking for that again. Less obligation, more room for what emerges. With a solid wind jacket and a rucksack holding only the essentials I set off. Back to basics. The rest will unfold by itself.

Day 1

What a great start!

Quite exciting, an official opening like this in the beautiful new church of Den Helder.

I feel very honored to be walking this 22-day opening walk together with Marinke, Ton, Anne, and Ruben. 5 totally different people who met at 9:30 this morning and immediately hit it off.

It takes a little getting used to again with a full backpack, but the sea awaits in Huisduinen. Shoes come off immediately to cool down those tired feet. Pure enjoyment!

Tomorrow a beautiful but long route along the coast and then on to the final destination in Anna Paulowna, so I'll be going to bed early 🤗
