The bustle of Delfzijl stands in stark contrast to the Arcadian calm of Uitwierde. The terp nestled against dike and harbour is an oasis of silence, where pigeons coo in the tower and sparrows chatter in the hedges around the freestanding, solid church tower. It has endured its fair share of hardship through the centuries. Because while it may look peaceful now, the many wars did not pass Uitwierde by.
