Lezing Noordzee

Den Helder

What happens to porpoises and seals as the North Sea changes? Marine mammal expert Dr. Mardik Leopold shares his research and stories from the sea. Accessible, in-depth, and surprising.

Take a look

The North Sea is constantly changing. Fewer fishing boats, more wind turbines, cleaner water. But what does that mean for the animals that live there? During this lecture in De Helderse Vallei, Dr. Mardik Leopold, seabird biologist and porpoise expert, will discuss the changes both above and below the water's surface.

Since 2006, Leopold has been researching marine mammals in the Dutch North Sea. Based on his fieldwork, he shares stories about porpoises, seals, and other marine life. What do they eat? Where do they migrate? And how do they respond to human activities?

The lecture is well-substantiated, yet accessible to everyone. No biology knowledge is required—curiosity about nature and the sea is enough. An inspiring afternoon for nature lovers, sustainability enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to better understand the North Sea.

The lecture is organized by the KNNV, Alkmaar-Den Helder branch. Admission is free; a voluntary contribution is welcome. Registration is not required.
