During the Open Monument Days on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, Wieringen will be entirely dedicated to the Viking Age. The Vikings from Weg van de Vikingen bring the past to life with historical stories, crafts, and activities for young and old.
Visitors can get acquainted with various traditional crafts and demonstrations, including woodworking and bow making. In addition, there are historical Viking games, visitors can bake their own bread rolls, and animal skulls and hides are on display. A Viking guide provides more information about life and history during this period.
Additionally, the exhibition 'Wieringen in the Viking World' can be visited on Saturday, September 12, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Various Viking activities have also been organized throughout the afternoon.
The Tanning Day will take place on Sunday, September 13, from 12:00 to 16:00. In addition to the Viking activities, there will be presentations by the Wool and Spinning Group, Island Dew, and the Wieringer fish trade. Furthermore, the Wool and Spinning Group is organizing the 'spinning of the longest thread' competition, and the historic tanning kettle will be fired up again.
The event offers visitors the opportunity to get acquainted with the history, crafts, and traditions of Wieringen in an accessible way. Admission is free all weekend.
