Walk across the salt marsh, wade through creeks and climb over dunes and discover the unique De Slufter nature reserve. The only area in the Netherlands where the sea can flow in unhindered. Accompanied by a guide from Staatsbosbeheer Texel you visit a part of De Slufter that is not freely accessible. Extra special!
At high tide, the creeks in the area flood and De Slufter becomes full. Only plants that can survive the salt water grow, such as sea lavender and sea aster. When they are in bloom during the summer months, they color De Slufter pink, lilac and purple. In the autumn, salicornia gives the area a red glow.
In extreme weather conditions, the seawater reaches the dike. The plants that grow here can withstand that. The terrain can be wet depending on the weather conditions.
