Take a look

What was life like in and around Schagen during the time of painter Cornelis Bok? During the film *Het penseel van Cornelis Bok* (The Brush of Cornelis Bok) , you step right into his world. In the Willibrordus Church in Haringhuizen, you are surrounded by 360-degree projections that transform paintings into living scenes.

The film tells the story of Cornelis Bok (1777–1836), who created more than sixty paintings of life in the region. Through ten key works, you see how his paintings come to life with animations and actors. This allows you to experience history up close.

Bok was not only a painter, but also a jailer at Schagen Castle. He cared for prisoners in the tower 'The Hell' and lived with his family in the tower 'The Heaven'. His life was simple, but his paintings tell grand stories about the North Holland of that time.

The film was made by a team led by Nel Groet (script and direction), Rutger Jan Bredewold (storyteller), and Joop Luten (film producer). In total, fifteen actors, two videographers, and various creative makers contributed to this special production.

After sold-out screenings in March, the film will be shown again on Sunday, May 10. A unique opportunity to experience art, history, and film in a surprising way.
