De Schierstins in Feanwâlden is the only freestanding medieval defence tower north and east of the river IJssel.
Today, this unique building hosts historical and art exhibitions and a variety of cultural activities. At the top of the tower you can see a slideshow that shows how the defence tower developed into an estate.
Other highlights include a permanent exhibition about the author Theun de Vries and beautifully curated temporary exhibitions. Stichting De Schierstins, the foundation that manages the centre, organises a range of cultural activities throughout the year, including concerts, lectures, medieval parties for children and temporary exhibitions. De Schierstins is open from 13:30 to 17:00 Tuesday to Sunday.
