A few years ago, the impoverished village café opposite the church in Hornhuizen was to be demolished. Shame - thought Erik Wong - and he prevented it from happening. He renovated the building, rented it and turned it into a workshop for doers and thinkers. People come to Hornhuizen from all over the Netherlands to further develop their creative talent.
2 years ago, Wongema was taken over by an association of people from the neighborhood (and the rest of the Netherlands) to ensure that this place can continue to exist.
At Wongema you can also spend the night in addition to working. Wongema was created for groups of workers, but also has a soft spot for truants. A weekend away with friends? Family day? Everyone is welcome. And then Wongema is also a village café with its own programming: music, film, food, party. All this in Groningen, nothing near the Wadden Sea. At Wongema everything is possible, there is no such thing as impossible.
