Stookerskoor Den Helder

Den Helder

Shanties and ship songs about steam, sea and homesickness

Take a look

The Stokerskoor Den Helder sings about life at sea. About steam and sail, about waiting for the home port. The group consists of men and women who perform ballads, shanties, and mischievous sea shanties.

Connected to maritime heritage

The choir was founded in 1993 during the restoration of steam tug Y8122. Their passion for maritime history remains. Performances and CD sales support the preservation of nautical heritage.

A welcome guest

The Stokerskoor performs nationally and internationally, from festivals in Den Helder to ports in Germany and Denmark. With accordion, banjo, guitar, and bass, they bring atmosphere and seamanship.

More than music

Songs tell stories. Sometimes melancholic, sometimes brutal. The Stokerskoor sings of the sea, the ships, and what happened on land after arriving in port.
