Fort Kijkduin

Huisduinen

Discover Napoleon's fort and walk among sharks in the aquarium

Take a look

Fort Kijkduin is a place where history and nature converge. Originally built by order of Napoleon, it now offers a unique experience for all ages.

Walk through history

Explore the underground passages, climb the walls, and discover how Den Helder was defended. In the museum, you'll learn all about the 1799 invasion, the construction of the fort, and military life back then.

Come face to face with sharks

At the North Sea Aquarium, you'll discover which animals live just off the coast. A highlight: the 15-meter-long walk-through tunnel, where fish swim above and below you. Exciting and educational.

For young soldiers and curious grandpas

The family exhibition lets you experience what it's like to be a soldier. Go on a mission through the fort, learn animal defense techniques, and get answers to all your questions about the military.
