Lichtschip Texel: maritiem erfgoed in de Museumhaven

Den Helder

Step aboard a uniquely restored lightship in Willemsoord.

Take a look

At the quay of Museumhaven Willemsoord lies a striking red giant: Lightship Texel no. 10. Built in 1951, active at sea for forty years, and an eye-catcher in Den Helder since 1996. Here you can feel history up close.

A ship with a story

Once a beacon for ships along the Dutch coast, now a monument of craftsmanship. Volunteers restored the ship with love and care. So you don't just step onto a ship, but onto tangible maritime heritage.

Visiting on board

Lightship Texel can be visited. Inside you can look around in original spaces and learn more about coastal lighting and the history of this special ship. Check the website for current opening hours and tours.

Unique piece of Willemsoord

The ship lies less than a hundred meters from the place where it was launched. A must-see for maritime enthusiasts and visitors to Willemsoord.
