Take a look
The design refers to the history of the area. Salt was once extracted here from peat soaked in seawater. The peat was stacked in cone shapes to dry. The design by architect Nynke Rixt Jukema reflects this history.
You reach the viewpoint via a footbridge from the dike. Inside, information panels explain the history and ecology of the Eanjumer Kolken. From here you can go down towards the water of the Súd Ie or climb up for a view over the landscape. The area is low-lying and known for its birdlife.
Around the viewpoint you’ll find several elements, including picnic tables, all designed in the same style.
Boaters can use a nearby Marrekrite mooring spot. If you arrive by car, you can park along the Hjellingswei or Kriensenswei.
A cycling path is planned along this route and is expected to be completed in 2027.
