Vliehors Express
Vlieland
The Vliehors Express takes you across the Vliehors, a vast sand plain covering 20 square kilometres on the western side of Vlieland. This striking landscape is often called the Sahara of the North.
Take a look
The Vliehors Express started in 1986 as part of the summer ferry service between Texel and Vlieland. Today, trips run throughout the year. The route takes you to the far end of the Vliehors, where seals are often spotted, and to the Rescue House in the middle of the sand plain.
The Rescue House once offered shelter to shipwreck survivors. It now houses a small beachcombing museum filled with objects washed ashore, from cigarette packets to messages in bottles.
Since 1997, the Rescue House has also been an official wedding venue on Vlieland. In recent years, it has been named among the world’s most beautiful wedding locations.
The Vliehors Express also organises trips and day packages for companies, family celebrations and school groups. You can find more information about tours, prices, tickets and private hire on the Vliehors Express website.
