Strandopgang Donkere Duinen (“Hengstepad”)

Den Helder

Quiet family beach, accessible via a nice walking or cycling route

Take a look

Looking for tranquility by the sea? Then Strandopgang Donkere Duinen is perfect for you. This beach is tucked away behind the Donkere Duinen recreational forest and nature reserve. Locals also call it the Hengstepad (Head of the Heifer). There are no cars here: the beach is only accessible on foot or by bike.

Cycling or walking to the coast

The route to this beach is an experience in itself. You walk or cycle straight through the greenery. Along the way, you'll hear birdsong and feel the salty sea air. Ideal for those seeking relaxation and enjoying the outdoors.

Natural, calm and without fuss

You won't find a pavilion, lifeguard, or any food and drink establishments here. That's precisely what makes it so special. This is a place where you can truly get away from it all. Perfect for a day with a picnic, a good book, or simply your bare feet in the sand.

Suitable for early birds and evening people

Dogs are welcome during peak season before 10:00 AM and after 7:00 PM. Horses are allowed on the beach before 9:00 AM and after 7:00 PM. This keeps the daytime extra peaceful for families and walkers.
