Zoutkamp - Kollumeroord | Klooster Claercamppad pilgrimage trail: Stage 2

The route takes you along unpaved paths through restored nature on land reclaimed from the old seabed. You walk past the Provinciale Sluis drainage lock where boats set their sails, then follow the sound of birdsong in the reeds to the Zoutkamperplaat nature reserve. In the spring the floodplains are full of meadow flowers in bloom. Highland cattle and Konik ponies graze the land.
Lookout points along the way offer spectacular views of the Zoutkamperplaat, Blikplaat and Kollumerwaard nature reserves. This stage of the trail includes not only panoramic views, but also the leafy scenery of Zomerhuisbos forest and Diepsterbos forest.
A section of the route runs along a hiking trail to Pompsterplaat. Here you will need proper walking footwear, so be sure to wear sturdy boots!

From here you follow the curves of the Dokkumer Djip waterway to Kollumeroord, a 200-hectare recreational area where a charming tea garden awaits you.
