The entire island of Schiermonnikoog is a national park. You won't find wild entertainment, but instead tranquillity, spaciousness and nature. You'll also find traces of people in the landscape on Schiermonnikoog. In the dikes, the polder, the forests and the dunes. You can even find art in the landscape, and landscape in the art; like the renowned International Chamber Music Festival that brings the nature of Schiermonnikoog indoors.
Monks began building dikes and John Eric Banck completed the job. A new sea dike created the Banckspolder bringing new opportunities along with it.
